Mike Sheldrake opened Polly’s Gourmet Coffee in 1976 at the end of Second Street in Belmont Shore. Forty-four years later, he is still roasting coffee beans every morning in the same location. Mike bought the coffee part of the business from Polly’s Pies in 1989 after having worked there since high school. He wanted to learn the business from roots to roasting, and the result was Polly’s Gourmet Coffee.
We all know this year had been challenging to say the least, and as a small business owner I would personally like to say "thank you" to every person who purchased a cup of coffee, pound of beans, and more. Without you we couldn't have made it through and we continue to survive because of your support.
Yup, it's still us! The only things changing is our name, from Polly's Gourmet Coffee to Sheldrake Coffee Roasting. Our owner, Mike Sheldrake, wants to more clearly communicate his 45 year mission of perfecting the art of coffee roasting. After all, it's what we do.
Did you know? Our owner and founder Mike Sheldrake took on Starbucks in 1999 with the help of The Retail Doctor, as one of their first clients.
